I highly recommend the HCASG and the Sibling Program to all of the families who have children with autism who are part of our disability ministry here at Grace Community Church. This is a great community outreach for our families to let those who attend the support meetings at HCASG know that we have a programming for their kids on the weekends so parents can go worship. It also is a huge help to us at Grace because we don’t have to find people to support programming for a parent support group or a sibling support group. We can refer them to one that is already established. Molly Mohr Director of Special Friends A disability ministry of Grace Community Church Noblesville, IN Submitted By: Molly Mohr

When parents in Hamilton County struggling with autism reach out to me regarding resources, the first call I tell them to make is to The Hamilton County Autism Support Group. The passion with which they respond, the knowledge they’re able to provide, and the empathy they’re able to convey is priceless to those searching for guidance and support. Parenting a child with autism is a marathon, not a sprint. HCASG is the aid station you rely on each mile.” David Ide Executive Director Little Star Center 12726 Hamilton Crossing Blvd. Carmel, IN 46032 Submitted By: David Ide

David “ Wonderful experience. Now that I know what it is, I wish I would have been up there giving a presentation too. PLEASE have one of these again! The world can be a lonely place when less than 1% of the population knows what it feels like to be autistic. I crave belonging and wanting to be understood just as much, if not more than the typical NT. It was an absolutely incredible experience to hear my own life experiences down to the smallest detail coming from the mouths of complete strangers. It was incredible to hear that I'm not alone. Every day I truly feel like I'm a being not from this planet. I laughed when I first heard that analogy, but it's so true. Tonight I felt like I was among my own kind. It was wonderful Submitted By: Jane Grimes

Elizabeth Roane “ I am an adult who is on the spectrum, and my father attended the conference along with me. We arrived late and missed the beginning part of it, however, we enjoyed what we were able to see. Seeing the youth that were on the spectrum, took me back down memory lane. Hearing their stories, really touched my heart in many, many ways that I could've only been described in words deep from my heart. I also enjoyed the older children and their stories. I could relate to the older participants in a lot of ways, because I am at the college age level, myself. What I enjoyed most, was the last 2 fellows and their enlightening stories and thoughts of how autism has impacted them, not so much from a sympathetic viewpoint, but more of a positive one. I am now, getting out of the sympathetic lifestyle of living with autism. ” Submitted By: Jane Grimes

Hello, Myself and Dave attended the program tonight and was very touched by all. I would like to set up a time and meet with you in reference to the Project Life Saver program we are trying to implement within our county. We enjoyed the program and found it informational as well. Thank you for allowing us to attend. Melissa Mitchell Second Shift Dispatch Supervisor Hamilton County Sheriffs Department Submitted By: Jane Grimes

Hi Jane, I just wanted to Thank-you so much for the event last night (Voices of the Spectrum). I have never experienced anything at all like that before. I cannot even find the words to describe how amazing it was to hear them speak, their perspectives on everything, etc. I wish and think there needs to be more of this...much more of this in the community. That is where many of the issues, problems, etc. come from is from the fear and lack of understanding of anyone "not typical" and this would just open up the eyes of so many if they could hear and see from their perspective. I cannot see anyone not growing compassion and a much better understanding after listening. I really hope you will do this again and maybe (with help) extend this to a more frequent level at schools and more into the community, etc. Those kids were just amazing. I wanted to hug them all and take them home to meet my son Lou and everyone. Thanks again for all you do! Jennifer Submitted By: Jane Grime

Jane Everyone did a FANTASTIC job last night! It was such a wonderful program. I think it did exactly what you wanted it to do - It allowed people to see the potential children have with autism and how important it is to make sure we have the resources available to allow them to be all they can be. By the way - you are a natural! You spoke from the heart and everyone could tell and you did it beautifully. I could go on and on but my family loved it. Thanks so much for all you are doing.
